Brewing company SA Brain has pulled an advert for being ‘inappropriate’ after Jonny Wilkinson suffered a partial ligament tear over the weekend.

The advert featured an English rugby player about to kick a conversion with his leg in plaster and was set to toll out this week.

Stewart Dobson, the company’s group marketing manager, said: “As with all our previous ‘positive thinking’ ads, this was intended very much as a tongue-in-cheek, humorous way of instilling some positive energy into the Welsh team and its supporters during the pre-match build up.”

“However, in light of Jonny Wilkinson’s injuries over the weekend, which will mean he is unlikely to take his place on the England team against Wales on February 5, we have decided it would be inappropriate to run the adverts.”

The adverts have been withdrawn from the billboards and will be substituted with an alternative poster.
