Tesco is to provide free first-aid training for parents and carers of babies and small children from November in a scheme to help give adults confidence to know what to do in emergencies. The BabySafe scheme is being run as part of Tesco’s Baby & Toddler Club, in association with the Royal Life Saving Society, following a recent report by Ofsted that raised concerns about a lack of first-aid skills among child-carers.

Those signing up will be given a series of two-hour seminars, running nationwide between November 2008 and March 2009. Topics include basic resuscitation techniques, dealing with choking, burns, scalds, meningitis and car safety tips.

The scheme is supported by celebrity mum Natasha Hamilton of Atomic Kitten.
