Marks and Spencer will be selling the British cucumbers grown at Stockbridge Technology Centre near York, using energy-efficient sodium lights for 18 hours a day.
Currently, festive season cucumbers are mostly produced in Spain.
NFU vice president Michael Paske said: “We want to see supermarkets putting more home-grown rather than imported produce on the shelves…
“We are pleased that supermarkets are increasingly receptive to this kind of initiative.”
According to the NFU, 80% of all households buy the salad vegetable.
