Sainsbury has created a new role to promote better brand awareness. Helen Buck will be joining the supermarket as brand communications director early in the new year.
Her appointment is the first that new marketing director Stephen Nelson, who was previously trading director, has made to his senior management team since he took up the role in May. The director of brand marketing, Jeremy Schwartz decided to leave in January after Nelson concluded that the role of brand marketing director should be restructured (The Grocer, September 25, p18).
Buck will join Sainsbury in January and is currently head of general merchandise marketing at M& S. Before this, she worked within the marketing sector of the food industry and has held strategy and marketing positions at Woolworths, Safeway and McKinsey.
Sainsbury said that her new role would be to ensure that the values of the Sainsbury brand were communicated effectively.
