Spar is co-ordinating efforts from the c-store sector to provide food for 1,000 homeless people at an eight-day festive event organised by the charity Crisis at the Millennium Dome.
Chris Davies, Spar UK retail services executive, is giving up one day a week to work on the project and has been offered assistance from the Co-operative Group, Tesco One Stop Stores and Budgens.
In addition to three hot meals a day, the homeless will also have access to a library, an internet café and a learning and skills zone.
Spar UK MD Jerry Marwood, who is a trustee of Crisis, said: “It is especially rewarding to see convenience operators who are normally in fierce competition with each other across the UK, working together for such a worthwhile cause.”
Anyone wishing to support Crisis with food products should contact Chris Davies at chris.davies@spar.co.uk.
