Budgens and Londis retailers are hoping to boost Christmas sales by creating their own hampers.

The retailers are also encouraging customers to make their own hampers using products available in stores.

"Musgrave has prepared a toolkit for retailers with ideas to help them make an impact in their community and increase footfall and sales," said a Musgrave GB spokeswoman.

Susie Hawkins, from Budgens Barnwood in Gloucester, has launched her own line of Christmas pet hampers containing dog treats and toys.

Other retailers are showing customers how easy it is to make hampers by donating products to their
 local community.

Michelle Gravelle, at Budgens of Sawston in Cambridgeshire, gave a hamper of tea, coffee and biscuits to residents of a local old people's home.
