Spar wholesaler Capper & Co has recruited Phil Jenkins to the new position of property and development director to help the 450 stores it services to grow their sales.

Jenkins joins from health and beauty retailer Crabtree & Evelyn, where he was property director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He will help Capper's 118 company-owned and 332 independent stores develop through acquisitions, refits and extensions. He has joined the executive board and leads a team of nine.

"The business has big plans to grow, which was a big attraction for me," said Jenkins. "With my experience in retail I hope to help the business's development plans, bring some new energy, add value and reduce costs."

Capper delivers to Spar stores in south Wales and much of the south of England and has a turnover of £283m.
