Caravan raised a record £210,000 for its benevolent fund at the annual Diamond Ball, held in London earlier this month.

Waitrose MD Mark Price, president of the charity's fundraising committee, gave a welcoming speech before a silent auction, a raffle and donations, with entertainment by Britain's Got Talent comedy dance act Stavros Flatley.

Caravan annually helps 1,850 ex-industry workers and their dependents, and gives one-off emergency grants for items such as cookers and wheelchairs.

Reservations can now be made for the 2011 Diamond Ball to be held on 4 March.
