Coca-Cola Enterprises has added an extra-light option to its Oasis soft drinks portfolio. It also plans to reduce the sugar content by up to 40% over the next three years across the core range.

Oasis Extra Light, aimed at females, has only three calories per 500 ml bottle and will be available in three flavours - Summer Fruits, Peach Passion and Power Berry, priced at 89p. The newcomer, which hits shelves next month, will replace Coca-Cola's 'no added sugar' Oasis Fusion brand, which was launched last year to tap into the trend for health drinks.

The drinks giant is also embarking on a marketing campaign aimed at promoting the thirst-quencher with food.

The activity, which forms part of a £3.6m spend for Oasis, will include press, radio and outdoor advertising in the summer.

To build on the drink's lunchtime credentials, Coca-Cola is also introducing a 375ml lunchbox ­multipack, which will come with a £2.99 price tag for a six-pack.
