US bottler Coca-Cola Enterprises said second quarter sales of its soft drinks, juices and bottled waters were flat in North America hit by a lack of consumer confidence Stateside.

Sales for the period rose 9% to $4.62bn from $4.23bn last year, while pre-tax profit increased 14% to $374m from $328m in 2003.

Total sales volume rose 1.5% and were 7.5% ahead in Europe, where business benefited from the weaker US dollar which fell 6% against the euro in the second quarter.
