Unilever UK has restructured its operations as part of ongoing efforts to simplify the business. It will combine its home & personal care and foods businesses into a single category structure, led by Vindi Banga, president for foods.

Banga, who has been in the role for nearly three years, has worked at Unilever for 31 years and has held numerous senior roles including senior vice president of hair and oral care and director of detergents at Hindustan Lever.

Western Europe will become a standalone region led by Doug Baillie, who moves from the role of CEO of Unilever Hindustan. He joined Unilever in 1987 and his roles have included president of Africa Business Group and chairman of Lever Pond's South Africa.

Unilever's Central and Eastern Europe business will be managed within an enlarged region called Asia, Africa and Central & Eastern Europe. Harish Manwani, currently president for Asia Africa, will head the region.

Unilever revealed in March 2006 that it was planning to merge its food, ice cream and frozen foods and household and personal care businesses in a global transformation programme called One Unilever. In August last year it admitted that it would cut 20,000 jobs worldwide over the next three years.
