Spar wholesaler Capper & Co is launching a new retailer club along the lines of Spar's Multiple Retail Group (MRG) to secure better terms for members on core grocery lines.
Membership of the Platinum Club, which will offer better trading terms in return for strict promotional compliance on agreed lines, will be by invitation only. All products will be pre-allocated, and all Platinum offers must be on off-shelf display.
Retrospective bonuses will be paid every four weeks based on EPoS sales rather than on the invoiced amount.
Although the Multiple Retail Group had been a big success, and Capper's MRG members had picked up £300,000 a year in bonuses, it tended to focus on convenience lines, and many members felt it needed a grocery layer, said a spokeswoman.
Sales director Alun Williams said retailer discipline was critical and revealed 24 stores had been struck off the Spar Red Dragon Guild because of poor trading disciplines.
