The service is currently only available to staff who work in the store. A canopy has also been erected outside the shop, with a sign for click & collect.

“Once this is evaluated, the trial for online collections at the Marple store will be extended to members and customers,” a Co-op Group spokeswoman confirmed.

Head of food Steve Murrells told The Grocer in August that trials of a variety of online options would were planned including click & collect, home delivery and online delivery tailored for the convenience sector.

“We’ve woken up to the fact that one size does not fit all and you need to be multichannel and multi-format if you want to be in tune with the challenging lives people have,” he added.
