A new promotion mechanic was unveiled at United Norwest Co-op's annual supplier conference. Kim Mawby, general manager trading, told delegates that cutting the length of its promotions from four weeks to three was a recognition of United's primary focus on convenience retailing. She said that c-stores customers tend to visit several times a week and this meant promotions needed to change more often to keep customers interested. Mawby said this would provide suppliers with more sales opportunities because there would be a greater volume of promotions. "Large store activity will be a bolt on. Pack sizes and mechanics must be targeted at convenience retailing first." Head of marketing Paul Siviter said a new marketing theme, "Freshness and value with a smile", would be launched in February. {{NEWS }}
