Yorkshire Co-op has announced increased turnover of 8.6% to £140.8m for its food division for the year 2000. As a whole the society announced an increase in sales of 19% to £479m. Pretax profit totalled more than £11.7m, an increase of 6.6% on 1999. Chief executive Peter Marks said: "The record sales were the result of a long-term investment and expansion programme." He said acquisitions in the motor group, petrol and food divisions had made a significant impact on the turnover. But he was unable to reveal any plans for further acquisitions. Yorkshire Co-op outlets include 12 Sunwin department stores and 114 Foodmarkets and Late Shop branches across Yorkshire and Lancashire. It is the fourth largest independent retail co-operative society in the UK. The organisation has a roll of 4,160 employees. {{NEWS }}
