The CWS is meeting suppliers in a bid to source more Scottish products for its 2,000 stores across the UK. The society is holding Meet the Buyer events in Glasgow and Inverness next week. It already buys £200m of goods a year from 80 suppliers. It wants to forge deals both with small firms who can supply a limited number of Scottish stores and those that can provide national coverage, possibly producing Co-op own label goods. David Messom, general manager of category buying for CWS, said: "We are confident the events will translate into solid contracts for new suppliers and significant business growth for the Co-op." He added: "There is great loyalty in Scotland to home produced products while consumers across the UK associate Scottish foods with quality which is reflected in high demand." {{NEWS }}
