The acquisition of three new stores, plus double digit growth from refurbished outlets, has boosted sales and profits at Midlands Co-op. In the 28 weeks to August, trading profit was 3.6% up at £7.8m. Turnover increased by £1m to £331.6m. The new stores were at Bakewell (formerly a Somerfield) in Derbyshire, and at Ibstock and Fleckney in Leicestershire. Chief executive Willie Tucker said: "We shall be driving forward a programme of store refurbs. Twelve 12 outlets will be relaunched in the second half of the year." {{NEWS }}
