Co-ops across the country are being invited to register for the new internet domain name .coop, which goes live later this year. It is hoped the new suffix will help establish a stronger footing for the co-op movement on the web and differentiate societies from dotcoms. As the UK registration body for the approval of the suffix, the Co-op Union is urging members to assume the domain name. Chief executive Pauline Green said: "We want .coop to become the hallmark of co-ops, identifying not only a fair democratic business structure but also positive social objectives, trusted and understood internationally." The Co-operative Group said it anticipated that .coop could become a useful means of finding new suppliers for its own label fair trade brand. {{NEWS }}
