Tesco, Marks & Spencer and Sainsbury joined chocolate manufacturers and representatives of cocoa producing countries at the Foreign Office this week to discuss how to ensure ethical working condition on cocoa plantations in West Africa. Africa minister Baroness Amos called for further research into cocoa production on the Ivory Coast and in Ghana. She was responding to allegations made by Channel 4 last year that cocoa labourers are working in conditions tantamount to slavery. Participants agreed to establish a task force that will visit the region later in the year. A regional conference to assess the progress that has been made will take place on the Ivory Coast in September. {{NEWS }}
