Tesco is looking to hire a property consultant specifically to focus on safeguarding its position if there were to be future public inquiries into competition.

The role would play a pivotal part in Tesco's approach and response to a new inquiry, with the senior consultant tasked with developing an in-depth knowledge of all past OFT and Competition Commission investigations.

In a recruitment advertisement for the role, Tesco outlined that the position would also involve working with internal and external teams to deliver data and analysis to support its position in the event of a new inquiry.

Tesco spent millions of pounds on putting its case to the latest supermarket inquiry, including a £1.4m spend when it went to the Competition Appeals Tribunal over the addition of a 'competition test' to local planning laws.
