Asda had the cheapest of this week’s three full baskets for The Grocer 33, with the Co-op claiming its first Storewatch title for customer service since January.
At £39.09 Asda’s full list in Farnworth just pipped Morrisons in Ebbw Vale by 19p. Both stores had congestion problems due to stacking trolleys in the aisles, but scored well for staff attitude, merchandising and offering to pack.
The Co-op in Whitby charged £47.46 for its 33 items. Our shopper was very impressed by the neat and tidy seaside store which was easy to get round. The deli counter was “sparkling”, while staff were polite and attentive.
Tesco was awaiting a delivery of Dolmio Original and Sainsbury was lacking small packs of fresh mince - otherwise both would have beaten Asda and Morrisons on price. Sainsbury in Glasgow was “spotless” and had at least two food demonstrators in store.
No small packs of Birds Eye frozen peas scuppered Safeway’s chance of its first full basket in Northern Ireland. However, the store was bright and clean and the staff were helpful.
Asda in Weston-super-Mare offered to knock £1 off the bill when our shopper enquired about McCain Home Fries being out of stock. Dolmio Original was also out of stock and tomatoes were scanned as carrots.
Somerfield was dimly lit, only sold Lurpak Light and had no Dolmio Original.
