The last remaining consortium preparing a possible bid for Somerfield has confirmed that it is still interested in the supermarket group.

The consortium, which includes Apax Partners Worldwide LLP, Barclays Capital and the Tchenguiz Family Trust, decided to put an end to speculation that it was planning to withdraw its interest by releasing an official statement.

The statement said: “Following recent speculation, the consortium confirms that it continues to work towards an offer for Somerfield. However, there can be no certainty that any offer will be forthcoming, nor the terms of any such offer.”

The consortium has until Friday (October 14) to make a bid or withdraw.

Last week London & Regional Properties announced that it was pulling out of the bidding.
