Cook will put company-owned stores back at the heart of its growth plans after doubling annual pre-tax profits to £1.3m.

The frozen food retailer also increased sales by 20% to £26.5m in the year to March. It said the results gave it the financial platform to grow its store estate. “After concentrating on our new franchise business, we are planning for new company-owned shops to be central over the next three years,” said a Cook spokesman.

Having opened its first company-owned shop in two years in Bromley, London, last August, Cook has opened two more this financial year.

Cook added it had performed ahead of budget in the first quarter, with like-for-likes up 7%.
