The threat of a strike among workers at Dairy Crest has been averted.

Workers had been threatening to strike over the company's plans to close its final-salary pension scheme, however, unions urged its members to accept the changes after Dairy Crest said that it would put extra money into the scheme.

Chris Kaufman, T&G national secretary for food and agriculture, said: "These negotiations show that Dairy Crest can no longer take it for granted that their employees will simply accept changes.”
