Self-confessed ‘Tesco town’ Exmouth is preparing to attract the interest of the multiples for a mixed-use development.
In October, Exmouth councillors expressed concern that Tesco’s purchase of a Safeway/BP forecourt would reduce competition, and called for another medium-sized chain to open to counterbalance it.
Now, as part of its proposals to improve Exmouth’s economy, East Devon District Council (EDDC) has proposed a mixed-use retail/leisure development in the estuary side of the town and is encouraging approaches from any grocery retailer. A spokesman said: “So far as we are concerned, it is not partial to any particular company.”
