Preston-based regional Spar operator James Hall & Co has unveiled plans for a £30m 45,000 sq m depot on the outskirts of the city.

The company is moving from its current site in Ribbleton to Bluebell Way, Fulwood just off the M6.

In addition to the warehouse facility the site will have, when fully developed, more than 3,000 sq m of office space, a 700 sq m training facility, a 275 sq m Spar, a petrol filling station and crèche. It is hoped that the new site will be fully operational in three years

MD Andrew Hall said: "Our site in Ribbleton was designed as a mill at the start of the 1900s, and despite a programme of almost constant development since we acquired the site in 1966, the premises are past their sell-by date and we have to gain maximum efficiencies.

"The move gives a clear indication of the faith that the company has in the future success of all independents operating under the Spar fascia in the north of England."
