Pressure group Farm is to quiz Tesco chief executive Terry Leahy at its AGM on June 18 about the disparity between its rising profits and falling farm incomes.

Representatives of Farm aim to ask questions such as: "With the farmer’s share of the retail value of a basket falling by 28% since 1988, is Tesco taking too big a slice of the food chain pie?"

Farmers and supporters will also be protesting peacefully outside Tesco’s AGM.

The shareholder action will follow the Commons briefing earlier in the week on the need for a wider ranging code of practice for supermarkets.
