The Cake Bake Company will forever be remembered as the company that made the cake car featured in the 2007 Full of Lovely Stuff TV ad campaign for the Skoda Fabia.
But now the business, which supplies baked foods to supermarkets and indies, has reached the end of the road for now at least after encountering “severe financial difficulties” along the way, according to administrators SFP. “The margins are tighter than ever in the food industry, so the survival of a business can be severely impacted by unforeseen financial problems,” said SFP group partner Simon Plant.
SFP is now battling to save the company from being consigned to the scrap heap. “We have been speaking to various interested parties and so far, the response has been encouraging,” added Plant.
The company has eight employees and an annual turnover of just under £1m. Its customers include Asda, Lidl, Costcutter and 99p Stores.
Cashflow difficulties and a recent technical issue have caused a temporary cessation in production.
