Somerfield and TM Retail will launch the first of six new concept convenience stores in Cheadle Hulme, Greater Manchester this week.
The Somerfield & Martin's dual-branded store is 1,800 sq ft, and features the Somerfield palette of Mediterranean colours.
Its offer incorporates Somerfield own label ready meals and a selection of wines, as well as an instore bakery.
Martin's range of newspapers, magazines and confectionery is included, with a newspaper delivery service also available.
The store is a new acquisition two doors down from a TM Retail Martin's store which is being closed down.
The other five trial sites, due to open in the north of England by August, will be conversions of existing TM Retail Martin's and Forbuoys sites.
Somerfield new business development director Keith Jackson said: "This unique joint venture brings together Somerfield's strength as a leading high street fresh food retailer, with our developed distribution infrastructure and reputation for excellence in own label food and wine, with Martins' expertise in news, magazines and its local convenience offer."
TM Retail's managing director David Saunders said: "At a time when the convenience market is becoming ever more complex and competitive, we see this as an important innovation to give our customers an even greater choice of quality fresh food and drink solutions in our busy traditional locations."
