Scotmid Co-op has moved further into the black following strong half-year sales growth in food. Operating profit for the 28 weeks to 26 July jumped 60% to £4.5m while sales were up 3.7% to £204.5m. Although price inflation hit key products such as bread and milk, and energy and distribution costs had increased, sales had increased thanks to improvements in products and availability, said CEO John Brodie. “The ‘raising the bar phase’ in our recovery has helped us to remain focused on continuous improvement,” he said.
