Former Asda boss Archie Norman has been named as the new chairman of ITV.

Norman, who led Asda as chief executive during the 1990s and later stepped up to become chairman of the retailer, takes over from Michael Grade at the helm of the broadcaster.

Norman currently has an advisory role with the owner of Australian retail group Coles. Earlier this year was touted as a possible successor to Sir Stuart Rose as Marks & Spencer chairman.
