Morrisons’ commercial director for fresh food is to leave the supermarket chain next month.

Chris Walker, who has held a variety of fresh food roles at Morrisons over the past 13 years, will leave the company on 16 September to join Boparan Foods.

Andrew Pleasance, the driving force behind Morrisons Fresh Lab concept, which trials new and innovative ways of retailing fresh food, will take over the reins. He will be responsible for Morrisons’ commercial operations in bakery, meat, fish and produce.

During the past year Pleasance has introduced a number of changes to the Fresh Lab project at Kirkstall in Leeds, resulting in sharp sales increases in produce (8%), butchery (9%), flowers (43%) and deli (31%).

“The innovations developed by Andrew at our Fresh Lab have delighted our customers in Leeds and it is now time to take these to our other stores in the UK,” said Morrisons group retails director Mark Harrison.

“In his new role, Andrew will be instrumental in developing our fresh food offer throughout our store network.”
