Youthful jazz singer Jamie Cullum delighted guests at Somerfield's tenth anniversary charity ball on the QMII with tales of growing up in Wiltshire.

One memory was meeting his mates for a smoke behind the local supermarket. "It was a Safeway," he recalled before wisely adding: "It would have been Somerfield but there wasn't a car park at the Somerfield."

Cullum was among celebrities and 1,800 guests who raised £1m for the Steve Redgrave Trust, which supports children's charities. Redgrave himself was later whisked off by helicopter to run the Flora London Marathon. Phew!
