FWD has claimed victory against legislation that would have required wholesalers that sell tobacco in Scotland to sign up to a national register.

The Tobacco and Primary Medical Services (Scotland) Bill requires tobacco retailers to register from 1 April. Its definition of a "trade tobacconist" initially appeared to include wholesalers, but after the FWD pointed out the inconsistency, the Scottish government said it would amend the regulation, confirming that wholesalers do not need to register.

"We protected our members' interests," said FWD CEO James Bielby.
