Londis retailers have stepped up their investment in the group's new Genesis format, according to sales director Terry Bedford. "The average cost of 40 Genesis refits completed last year was £51,500 per site," he explained. "This has increased to an average of £57,000 for seven sites refitted in the eight weeks to the end of March at a total cost of £400,000." And he said the average for five Genesis stores that were completed in April had increased again to £78,600 per site. Bedford said that the stores that had been converted to the Genesis format had generated an average 31% increase in sales after redevelopment. A further 52 stores are due for completion this year. l Londis is on course for its wholesale turnover to exceed £0.5bn this year, doubling the amount since 1993, according to marketing director Denise Buller. She said one of the main contributors to the growth was the store development programme to maximise the trading potential of every site. {{NEWS }}
