South west Spar retailer Gillett’s, which is ranked 36 in The Grocer Top 50, has installed a head office system from software provider BCP allowing it to exert central control over ranging and pricing.

Product information, price changes and deals are now downloaded automatically into EPoS systems at the company’s 31 stores using BCP’s AIMS messaging service, freeing up managers to focus on driving trade, said IT director Alan Cookson. Individual stores still place orders directly with Spar wholesaler Appleby Westward, but sales data goes straight back to Gillett’s HQ daily for analysis, he added.

“This means I can control prices at each store, manage stock levels and pick up sales data.”

Better management reports driven by the system would also help drive efficiencies in the business and improve ranging through greater visibility of data, he said.
