The company, ranked 36 in The Grocer Top 50 independent retailers, aims to refit the 1,300sq ft Feniton outlet using the Spar Millennium format by the end of February, extending it by 400sq ft.
The two new Cornwall stores are at Par and St Austell. Mark Gillett, Gillett’s sales director, said each store would be fitted with food to go sections: “This is one of the areas we need to move into and if successful, there will be possible opportunities to include similar sections in other stores.“
Gillett was reluctant to speak about target numbers for store acquisitions, saying the present focus was on refitting stores: “We will only buy stores as and when. We are wary of expanding our portfolio when we have stores in need of refitting.” He said £280,000 had been allocated to refits taking place in the next eight weeks.
Gillett’s plans to install extra chilled space in most stores as part of the refit programme.
