Staff at 3663 face redundancy after the foodservice provider lost its contract to supply the MoD with food for British troops.

The contract was won by DBC Foodservice, which was subsequently purchased by Woodward Foodservice from Danish Crown. From 1 October MoD-contracted personnel will transfer to Woodward under employment regulations that preserve employees' terms and conditions when a business is transferred to a new employer.

3663 said it would not make redundancies but the GMB said it expected up to 273 jobs to go as work was relocated from 3663 depots previously serving the MoD contract. Many staff would be unable to afford to relocate, it said, and estimated that 220 jobs would go in Basingstoke, 38 in Bradford with 15 redundancies in Dundonald.

The MoD contract involves delivery of products to 1,200 bases in the UK as well as the South Atlantic, Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia and Germany.
