Hard discounter Lidl has applied for planning permission for its second central distribution facility in the Irish Republic, a 330,000 sq ft development at Charleville, County Cork.

Lidl already has a similar centre in Newbridge, County Kildare, which supplies its 40 stores across the Republic. The new €12m facility, if approved, will strengthen the chain’s position in Munster, the traditional heartland of the Musgrave Group.
