Its Flora Light (£1), Hardys Semillon Chardonnay (£4.69) and mini Babybel (£1.56) all came in cheapest. Tesco also offered 11 joint-cheapest items and had the greatest number of products on promotion, including four round-pound deals.
For the second time in recent weeks Asda was in second place, although it provided the cheapest Green & Black's organic chocolate (£1.50), Lucozade (£3) and whole chicken (£3). It also made four price hikes.
Sainsbury's fell one place this week, although its bargain apples (64p/kg) and shower gel (44p) helped the retailer to a respectable third place. Its basket ended up just 23p more expensive than closest rival Asda.
Morrisons offered three of the cheapest items, including balsamic vinegar (91p) and free-range eggs (£1.43), but its £55.40 basket price meant it took fourth place in the table.
Waitrose failed to offer any of the cheapest items or any promotions. Its Tetley tea bags were the priciest, at £4.15, as were its courgettes, at £2.12/kg. This put the retailer in fifth place with a basket costing £7.82 more than Tesco.
