Food from Peru is the latest ethnic food hit poised to sweep the UK, according to managers of a north London supermarket.

Budgens' refurbished Crouch End store has introduced eight different types of Peruvian jam, including exotic flavours such as mango, passion fruit and papaya, and five different types of stuffed olives.

The specialities are flying off the shelves and could be rolled out nationwide as a result, said a spokesman for the store.

According to figures from Haringey Council, nearly half of Crouch End's 224,300 residents are from ethnic minority backgrounds.
