The Henderson Group has bought Ireland’s fastest-growing café chain The Streat, broadening its presence beyond Ireland.

The franchise business, which has 37 outlets across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Scotland and a turnover of more than £8m, has been bought by Henderson Foodservice, a subsidiary of the Henderson Group.

The acquisition marks a new era for Henderson because it will see it trading outside Ireland for the first time. There are currently two The Streat franchises within Spar stores and Henderson Foodservice MD Damien Barrett said there was potential to roll out more franchises to other stores across the province.

“As a local wholesaler we see this as a very positive investment in a local brand which will bring mutual benefit,” he said. “Hendersons will add value to The Streat through our property skills, buying power and foodservice expertise, while The Streat will bring an exciting new dimension to our overall business and help expand our franchise portfolio. The partnership also has the potential to boost trade for local suppliers as we service the needs of the chain throughout Ireland and Scotland.”

The Streat’s current management will continue to run the business and will receive help from Henderson to expand its food-to-go and delivered food offerings.
