Employees of The Grocer Top 50 independent retailer Costcutter had a close encounter with the Anglican church when they had a visitation from John Santamu, Archbishop of York.
"He has obviously heard that working at Costcutter is like a religious experience," quips marketing manager Graham Hey. "We're all praying for 5pm."
Imagine the holy hush that descended upon the company's HQ in lieu of the usual bawdy banter. Not to mention the frenzy of activity before the Archbishop arrived as blokes replaced their copies of Zoo and Nuts with more wholesome literature.
The Archbishop was in fact there to congratulate Costcutter for being named as one of the fastest-growing independent companies in the UK, according to a recent survey in The Times.
And we thought he was there to tell MD Colin Graves he was next in line for his mitre.
