David Cheesewright has been handed a new role at Walmart, in which he will oversee its UK business and other overseas operations. Cheesewright was chief operating officer at Asda for seven years before becoming president and chief executive of Walmart Canada in 2008.
Asda chief financial officer Judith McKenna will step into the chief operating officer role unexpectedly vacated by Simon King last week. McKenna, who joined Asda over 15 years ago, will take over responsibility for all Asda’s retail operations, including its stores, distribution network and IT systems.
Asda number two Simon King has left the company just six months after joining, it was announced today. The retailer said the appointment had “not worked out” and it had been decided “by mutual consent” that King should leave his role as chief operating officer.
