The Co-operative Group has named Trevor Ashworth as general manager, retail logistics, replacing Jon Bearne, who has taken early retirement.

He will report to Malcolm Hepworth, chief operating officer for retail, and will focus on improving supply chain and logistics systems to boost customer service.

His appointment follows the acquisition of the Balfour chain of 76 c-stores and 35 newsagents, bringing total Co-operative Group store numbers to more than 1,800. The Group is currently converting the Alldays estate of 630 c-stores,
which it acquired last October. Ashworth will be responsible for ensuring supply chain efficiency as the integration of Balfour and Alldays continues.

He previously worked for Hays Logistics in Poland, managing all its activities.
