Independent retailers have a tremendous future, according to former Londis chairman Peter Williams, who has retired after 37 years in retailing.
Williams, who helped engineer the symbol group’s buyout by Musgrave last July despite a row over massive payouts to Londis’ directors, said he had seen Londis grow from being the laughing stock of the industry to becoming a market leader with Musgrave.
Williams, who was chairman of Londis for 18 years, predicted that the group would go from strength to strength.
“The Musgrave deal was right for Londis. Retailers are already seeing the benefits in pricing and service, and over the next few years it will get even better.”
