Tesco’s business in Ireland has been given a boost with the opening of a new state-of-the-art meat packing plant.
The Hilton Food Ireland facility, based at Drogheda, Co Lough, was officially opened last week by Sir Terry Leahy, Tesco’s chief executive.
The €12m plant is dedicated to Tesco’s growing operation in the Republic of Ireland.
Hilton Food Ireland said the 40,000 sq ft facility is the most modern food preperation and packaging plant in the country.
Robert Watson, Hilton Group chief executive, said: “The new Drogheda facility is a strategic
development of the long-standing supplier partnership that we have with Tesco.
“The investment will benefit Tesco’s Irish customers by enhancing the quality, range and availability of the Tesco 100% fresh meat offer.”
Assistance in constructing the plant was provided by €800,000 of funding from Enterprise Ireland. The facility will initially employ 140 staff, with plans to increase to 200 within three years.
