The society has trademarked the phrases under a number of classifications including retail, financial, travel and funeral services. This year, The Co-op Group has been keen to promote its family of businesses and its consumer ownership following its acquisition of Somerfield last year. It ran a Good for Everyone TV ad campaign to the tune of Bob Dylan's Blowin' in the Wind earlier this year.
However, the Co-op Group denied it was planning to use the phrases in the near future. "As part of an ongoing programme of brand protection we from time to time register names that we may, or may not, wish to use in the future but more importantly would not wish others to register," a spokesman said.
