Sainsbury, Tesco and Asda could have police stations in stores and their logos on police cars if a government plan to involve local businesses in policing goes ahead.
Sainsbury said its head of security would meet police the month to discuss crime prevention and store activity.
Asda has already been involved in sponsoring a fire brigade in Leeds and would not rule out getting involved.
Tesco said it had a lot of ad hoc dealings with community policing but did not currently work on a formal basis.
