Jamie Oliver could be poised to make his own foray into food and drink retail though his new chain of restaurants.
The celebrity chef - the face of Sainsbury's - will open the first branch of Jamie's Italian in Bath next spring and could ape Carluccio's by selling a selection of groceries.
Carluccio's currently generates 22% of its turnover from retail sales.
"There is the possibility of a retail element," said a spokesman for Oliver's merchandising company, Fresh Retail Ventures. "We will see how the Bath store pans out."
Further Jamie's Italian restaurants are planned for Cambridge and Brighton.
